Welcome to the town of Buea in the Southwest Province of Cameroon where Africa’s most grueling footrace, the Mt. Cameroon Race of Hope, awaits those athletes who are up for the unique challenge. With over 21,000 feet of elevation change over the course of the race, the athletes must climb to the summit of this volcano at 13,045 feet before their decent to the finish. The obstacles are immense with 50 degree temperatures fluctuations, altitude sickness, and poor footing on the loose volcanic stones. This documentary explores several athletes such as five time winner Sarah Etonge, known as the "Queen of the Mountain". Prior to the race she is confronting a knee injury and the strain of a hospitalized child. For other competitors this is the one opportunity to obtain fame and fortune in a country short on both. With nearly half of all runners quitting this race you will witness the adventure of those who try to overcome both Mt. Cameroon as well as their own limitations.
