This film was designed to explore the lack of interest and barriers that black Americans face in distance running, especially the marathon. The main question asked is "Why don’t black (African) Americans run long distance, specifically, the marathon?" The range and depth of response is truly amazing. Many of these interviews are quite candid and the opinions reach all over the board in trying to explain such a complex topic. Answers reveal a host of aspects including cultural influences, socio-economic factors, genetics, mindset, coaching, marketing, role models, prejudice, and physical health issues. These beliefs came from a wide range of writers, race directors, sponsors, running club members, professional and amateur runners, Olympic marathoners, and people of a wide range of nationalities and ethnic groups.
