Visit the Eugene Running Company web site to view this 8 minute biographical film that was seen during the 2008 United States Track and Field trials in Eugene, Oregon. Bill McChesney, Jr. attended South Eugene High School and won six state titles before deciding to attend the University of Oregon. One of his teammates during the time included Alberto Salazar who recalls this amazing runner. This school record holder in the 5,000 (13:14.8) and 10,000 meters went on to qualify for the 1980 Olympic Team, although he never competed due to the Olympic boycot. You will hear from Bill McChesney, Sr. as well as Nanci McChesney-Henry who describes his Olympic Trial race. Unfortunately in 1992, Bill’s life was lost at the age of 33 in an automobile accident when going to be an honorary starter at a cross country meet.
