Hosted by Coach Will Freeman of Grinnell College, this presentation examines the USDA food pyramid and then details a newer approach in the Harvard Medical School food pyramid as an alternative, healthier nutritional model. The goal is to make the best choices for eating that will benefit the strong needs of an athlete in training. You will see healthy options for eating, including what to eat prior to and during competition, as well as how to address eating disorders. Some of the topics covered include: problems with eating healthy; faults with the USDA Pyramid and a more healthy food pyramid model (Harvard Medical School); understanding carbohydrates, fats, and proteins; what to eat before, during, and after competitions and workouts; the critical nature of water for the athlete; and definitions, signs, and research on eating disorders.
