Coach Bill Webb brought his men’s team from Tennessee and took home the title by just one point over TCU at the host site at the University of Oregon. On the women’s side it was Coach Ron Allice and Southern California winning over UCLA for the team title. Individual champions in the running events include Justin Gatlin in both the 100 and 200 sprints, Avard Moncur, Otukile Lekote in the 800, Bryan Berryhill, Daniel Lincoln in his first of three steeplechase wins, Jonathon Riley, Ryan Shay in the 10K, and Ron Bramlett and Bayano Kamani in the hurdle events. The women were led by Angela Williams, Brianna Glenn in the 200, Allison Beckford, Brigita Langerholc, Mary Jane Harrelson in the 1500, Elizabeth Jackson in the first ever women’s NCAA 3,000 Meter Steeplechase with a winning time of 9:49.73, Kauren Fleshman, Amy Yoder-Begley, and Donica Merriman and Brenda Taylor in the hurdle races.
