The University of Arkansas men’s team won its 11th straight NCAA indoor track and field championship with the highest point total in the meet’s 30-year history, compiling 94 points in 16 events in the two-day meet at the Hoosier Dome in Indianapolis. Four running events were won by this group of athletes: Calvin Davis in the 400 meters, Niall Bruton running 3:59.34 in the mile, Jason Bunston in the 5,000 meters, and the Distance Medley Relay team of Bruton, Davis, Brian Baker and Graham Hood with a winning time of 9:30.07. The LSU women’s team won their meet for the second consecutive year, this time over the second place team of Alabama. They were able to win without a single individual champion on the track. Atheletes who did win running events included Holli Hyche, Dionne Rose, Flirtisha Harris, Amy Wickus, Amy Rudolph, Kay Gooch, and Brenda Sleeuwenhoek.
