In this video you will relive the New York Fifth Avenue Mile from Sidney Maree winning the first year in 1981 to the victory in 1985 by John Walker. Originally broadcast live on ABC Sports, Marty Liquori is joined in the announcing booth by Jim McKay. Several Texaco Road Miles from Toronto are also featured from 1984 to 1987 with winners such as Pierre Deleze and Peter Elliott. Sidney Maree’s 1500 m World Record of 3:31.24 run on the track in Cologne, West Germany is shown as well as Eamonn Coghlan’s Indoor Mile World Record of 3:49.78. Some additional men who compete on this tape include Tom Byers, Ray Flynn, Steve Scott, Mike Boit, Steve Cram, Rod Dixon, Jose Abascal, and Jim Spivey. The 1983 women’s competition showed Wendy Sly beating the field that included Brit McRoberts, Christine Boxer, Kim Gallagher, and Joan Benoit.
